He has been forced to pull out as he is sick with flesh-eating disease necrotizing fasciitis, which he contracted after being bitten by the critter. The bite was extremely serious, with the guitarist almost losing his arm and falling into a coma following the bite and since had many operations in order to remove the dying tissue from his arms. Hanneman talked about the moment he knew something was wrong, "The arm was real hot. I got to the emergency room, and thank God the nurse knew straight away what it was. By chance, although it's pretty rare, she had seen a case a little while before. At that point, I was an hour away from death". "Unbelievably, the doctor was a Slayer fan and the first thing he said to me was: 'First I am going to save your life. Then I am going to save your arm. Then I am going to save your career." The rest of the band has written an open letter to his fans stating, "It's been about a year since he got out of the hospital, and since then, he had to learn to walk again, he's had several painful skin grafts, he's been in rehab doing exercises to regain the strength in his arm." Slayer Issue Update On Guitarist Jeff Hanneman's Health Slayer Issue Update On Guitarist Jeff Hanneman's Health ... Slayer have issued the following open letter regarding the ongoing recovery of their guitarist Jeff Hanneman: "Slayer fans everywhere - it's time to let you know what is going on with our brother Jeff Hanneman. As you know, Jeff was bitten by a spider more than a year ago, but what you may not have known was that for a couple of days after he went to the ER, things were touch-and-go. There was talk that he might have to have his arm amputated, and we didn't know if he was going to pull through at all. He was in a medically-induced coma for a few days and had several operations to remove the dead and dying tissue ... onstage with the band, all of us support his decision. So, we're very grateful that Gary Holt will continue to fill in for Jeff, and will tour with us until Jeff completes his rehab and is ready to return. How long will that be? The best and most honest answer we can give you is 'as long as it takes.' We also wanted you to know that we've been doing some writing and recording for the next Slayer album - we've tracked a few songs, and will finish the album when we're off the road later this year. Gary will join us on tour in Europe and the UK in May and June, and then we'll all see you on this Summer's Mayhem Festival."

Tale of two shows part 1 opening band The Acacia Strain tunes up, everyone expresses their hopes in comparison to their Last Lamb of God adventure. Each person here is a veteran of the scene; with no first time concert goers or 16 year old girls in sight. Instead you see the people you always see at rough shows like this: old guys with older Slayer tour shirts, a gigantic guy in the middle of the pit next to an incredible tiny woman who looks like she eats nails, and of course the dude in a chicken suit. Anthrax and Testament Tear Up Baltimore On Second Leg of Tour really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Alex Skolnik had a smile on his face, as did Chuck Billy, who spent his time, when not singing, running around the stage and playing air guitar on his quarter mic stand. Appearing so happy while playing such angry music is a paradox I first witnessed seeing Slayer on their "God Hates Us All" tour, but it was no less on display with Testament and Anthrax this evening. The music may be harsh and aggressive, but it's still refreshing to see the musicians having a good time and feeding off the crowd; it helps create a connection with the musicians themselves, rather
